Since its formation in 1970 CENTA Antriebe has always concentrated on solving application problems involving flexible couplings, and especially those involved with torsional vibration. More than 10 million CENTAFLEX couplings have been installed succesfully, most of them on Diesel engines in all parts of the world. Ship propulsion and auxiliary drives have been one of the major areas of activities for many years. CENTA developed many special designs covering the range from pleasure boat drives up to large couplings for torques up to 500kNm, that means several thousand kW, connecting diesel engines to gears, generators or PTO’s etc. and gears to propeller shafts. Important series for marine applications: CENTAX-SEC-super elastic coupling system in various versions with outstanding misalignment capacity for torques up to 500kNm CENTAX-V-intermediate couplings for u/joints for torques up to 50kNm CENTAX-TT-Torsional couplings for gen-sets, torques up to 1,000kNm CENTA-Carbon fibre composite-Lightweight flexibe drive shafts between engine and gear and between gear and waterjet CENTAFLEX-A-Flexible couplings and torsional soft floating shafts to drive waterjets, torque up to 14kNm CENTALINK-flexible, noise damping, maintenance free floating shafts for all kinds of ship propulsion, e.g. gears, jets etc., torques up to 120kNm. CENTA-FH-flanged bearing housing to support u/joints or CENTA flexible shafts with built-in torsional couplings. Torques up to 25kNm, housing sizes up to SAE 00 CENTAFLEX-DS-dual stage coupling. This 2-stage coupling has an extremely soft first stage and a siffter, but not too siff, second main stage. It solves the problem of gear chatter at idling or low speeds and it allows lower idling speed. Torques up to 15kNm, that means about 2,000 kW. CENTASTART-torsionally soft centrifugal clutch. Torques up to 5kNm.
